I don’t want my server to be an SMTP-server but I do want it to be able to send me e-mails. Hence, Postfix is overkill and I settled with msmtp and Gmail.
Updating is good. But even on Debian “hoping that things won’t break” is sometimes part of the update strategy. Except for security. Let’s enable unattended updates.
I chose Debian as the operating system. It is secure and lean. But this also means a couple of extra steps to make it usable.
A lot of IoT things happening at home involve interacting with my server. Like a lot of people, I started with a Raspberry Pi. Now I’ve moved onto a fanless computer I use as a server.
